Sophie and Ethan Doyle represented GCC and the Sunshine Coast at the Queensland School Sport Cross Country Championships recently.

The races were held at Nudgee College on a flat and fast course. The pace was fast and furious, with very little time separating most positions.

Sophie raced in the 13 Girls 3km race and was super happy to place 7th, putting her in the top ten placings for Queensland Cross Country for the first time.

Ethan has struggled with an injury lately, but ran bravely to finish 16th in the 11-year-old boys’ race, which was a great effort.

Both Sophie and Ethan also competed in the relay races, where the Sunshine Coast teams challenged the leaders throughout the races. Sophie enjoyed running in a team with her usual local rivals rather than racing against them. Her team ran a great race, winning the silver medal.

Ethan ran a phenomenal leg of his relay with his team so determined to win a medal. He ran the 1km loop in 2.59 seconds, which is super fast, getting his team from 5th place into 2nd place with two runners to race. The last two runners held onto 2nd and 3rd places, earning the team the bronze medal!
