We all know how to play softball a whole lot better now and we love it! That was the reaction of the Year 5 and 6 students who have been playing softball against other Glasshouse District schools on Friday afternoons.
This year Friday Interschool Sport is for Year 5 and 6 students and softball was the first sport played. It is great to have this competition spread over three weeks as the students find their weaknesses the first week, practise them before the next competition week and then enjoy the improvement in the next games.
All the teams had a mixture of wins and losses but week two was great for us when we won all but one game. The competition is played as a round robin and then teams play off for final placings in the last game of the competition.
The most successful players were three students who volunteered to play for Peachester State School as they were short of players. Dylan Bruggemann played every week for them and was rewarded as their team won the B Boys’ competition! Mitchel Tidy and Clancy Warner also played one week each for them. Peachester were very grateful for the help given by these boys.
The A Girls’ team was our most successful team contesting a final against St Michaels for first and second place. St Michaels were too good for our girls but our girls finished in second place which was a great effort.
The B Boys and B Girls teams both finished in third equal and the A boys finished fourth overall.
Teams have been committed to lunchtime practises for most of the term and have really enjoyed improving skills and game play each week. We all really appreciate the support given by parents who came to watch the games played and often ended up helping out as well.
Next term Soccer and Netball will be played at Interschool Sport and trials for these teams will be held early in Term 2.
