Tyler and Lily Short excelled in the Primary competition at the St Andrews Show Jumping Challenge held in Verrierdale last weekend. Tyler dominated the primary age group and was awarded the Overall Best Primary Rider at the carnival which was a fantastic result.
St Andrew’s hosted its 2nd Annual Show jumping Event with 46 riders competing and 10 schools represented. The quality of jumping was wonderful and it was great to see our young Primary riders leading the way. Unfortunately, several riders who had entered could not compete on the day so GCC was represented by just four riders.
Tyler and Lily both showed their experience when riding in the 50cm, 70cm and 80cm events against riders from invited schools on the Coast. The Primary Division was dominated by Tyler and Lily with only five or six other competitors in this division.
Tyler won the 70cm and 80cm events and Lily finished 4th, 2nd and 2nd in her three events. Tyler did not place in the 50cm event as he lost his course in this event. Both Tyler and Lily qualified for the finals which required clear jumping in the preliminary round. In the finals, the fastest horse and rider over the predetermined course was the winner. In both 70cm and 80cm finals Tyler was just .8 and 1 second faster than Lily placing them first and second in these events.
Chelsea Lewis also competed in the 40cm event and gained lots of experience at this event.
