Last week in Assembly Toula Gordillo, a clinical psychologist spoke to our students about Cyber Safety. This was well received by the students and they are now more aware of strategies to handle cyber bullying and other cyber attacks on their safety. Toula Gordillo runs a website called talk to teens www.talktoteens.com.au and facebook page with a similiar name. Parents can visit this page if they want more information.
I also reminded students that we do not tolerate bullying in any form and discussed with them the Bullying Support site on GCCC Connect. Please note that there is information on here for parents as well. To visit the site, go to this link: http://connect.glasshouse.qld.edu.au/course/view.php?id=899
On the Bullying Support website there is a form students can use to report instances of bullying and submit electronically. A full investigation will occur once we receive a bullying report.
QCS Preparation: The year 12 students have commenced regular preparation sessions for the QCS exams held in September. All students who are OP Eligible must sit this exam. Students who are OP ineligible are strongly encouraged to sit the exam as it can greatly improve their tertiary selection rank. On the other hand, a poor result on the QCS test will not be detrimental to their rank. It is therefore a huge benefit for non-OP students. QCS practise will continue each Wednesday morning for about 2 hours. Tuesday evening we held an information session on QCS, OP calculations and Tertiary selection ranks. If you have any questions relating to these important issues then please contact our Dean of Studies, Rob Steffler.
On Friday the Year 12’s will be going to the University Showcase. This is another opportunity for students to talk to representatives from a wide range of tertiary institutions about options in 2015. There will be representation from TAFE and the Defence Forces as well as the respective Universities. Guest presenters will also discuss life beyond Year 12 and what is available to help and support them in the next stage of their journey post-secondary.
- The Year 11 camp will be coming up very soon in Week 8. It is very important that the College is fully informed of all medical details as well as emergency contact details. Please ensure all camp forms are fully completed when issued.
- Year 10 Work experience: Week 10.
