Senior School News 25 November 2016

Tis the season to be Jolly!

What a fantastic time of year.  Christmas is coming! Summer is on it’s way and we have had the most amazing weather.  At GCC, we have had a fantastic end of the year.  Our Year 12’s have done us proud.  We had a wonderful Awards Night and a fantastic Graduation Assembly.  The Year 12 Formal could only be described as spectacular.  God has really blessed us.

University of the Sunshine Coast Guaranteed Early Entry

I have been told that two of our students have been given guaranteed entry into courses for 2017. Lachlan McCaig has been offered a place in the Bachelor of Psychology (honours) program and Kiara Thrupp has been offered a place in double degree program, Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology)/Bachelor of Criminology and Justice. This is wonderful because they no longer need to wait for their OP’s to come out.

University of the Sunshine Coast Headstart courses

Five of our Year 10 students have been accepted into University Headstart courses. They will be studying a university subject which will give them credit towards future studies once they leave school.

  • Jayde Curtis has been accepted into the subject Science Research Methods
  • Gabriella Jacobsen and Laura Moffat have been accepted into the subject Justice and the Australian Legal System.
  • Louis Vobr has been accepted into the subject Introduction to Australian Politics and
  • Aaron Lerch has been accepted into the subject Communication and Thought.

Diploma of Business

It is great to see so many students signing up for the Diploma of Business course offered through the College. Currently it looks like we will have maybe  9 in the program starting in 2017. If your child would be interested in doing the course then please contact Carole McKee our Future Pathways Coordinator.

Awards Night is no more – long live Presentation Night

In an attempt to demonstrate that Awards Night is not all about getting Awards, we have renamed the event to Presentation Night. Presentation Night 2017 will be held on 7 November and will start at 6:30pm. Please mark this date on your calendar.  It is a fantastic night of celebrating all that God has done for us throughout the year.

Finally, I wish you a wonderful Christmas and New Year.

God Bless

David Heyworth, Head of Senior School
