Senior School News 21 August 2015

Are we all that God wants us to be?

Last week we saw the many talents of a number of students on show in the Legacy Cup competition “Time to Shine”. It was a lot of fun and the winning three entries were extremely entertaining. In the end, the winning performance was by a Sinai student, Madeleine Roulston playing the classic “Wrecking Ball” on the Harp (Yes you did read that correctly!). In second and third place were two performances from Zion; from Year 10, Jesse Woods performing an act that defies explanation and finally Hayden Snow, our Performing Arts Captain from Year 12 who did a wonderful rendition on the piano.

I want to thank all the students who performed and for the great support the Houses gave to this competition.

Occasionally, I enjoy checking out YouTube compilation videos.  Recently I saw a set called “People are Amazing”.  It reminded me of how diverse are our gifts and abilities.  Some of the characters in these videos are not young either!  They have honed their talents at different stages in life.  God has blessed us all with gifts and talents that he wants us to use.  It is our purpose to use these talents for His glory.

As part of our interview process with students in choosing subjects and courses, I constantly have to remind myself that each child that I talk to has a plan for their life that was worked out way before they were even born. God has gifted each with the talents and abilities to give each a full and rewarding life.

One of my favourite verses is Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

We often ask students “What would you like to do when you grow up?” when we should really be reminding them to simply trust God and let Him provide the opportunities in life.

Coming Up…
