Secondary Sports Wrap Up – Term 2, Weeks 5 and 6

GCC Athletics Carnival

The Secondary GCC Athletics Carnival will be held this coming Tuesday 4 June. The event has been moved to the Sunshine Coast University’s athletics track.

The 800m, 1500, Triple Jump and Javelin will be done either before or after the carnival. Many year groups have already completed a trial over the 100m distance and the fastest students will compete in the A division final on carnival day.

Buses will begin running from school at 8am on Tuesday morning and we encourage students to get to school early if possible to take advantage of this available transport.

The program has been streamlined to compensate for the time lost in travel. Please note that the event times below are approximate only.

SC Netball competition

Round 9 and 10
GCC defeated Pacific LC 33-19

The Hawks absolutely smashed their semi-finals against PLC this week, playing a sensational game of netball!  The first third saw them even, but the Hawks pulled together as an incredible team and took it away to win 33-19 at final time. Every player was invaluable as always, and as a coach, I have to give each of them the MVP for this week! Amazing work girls! Proud of you!

GCC defeated SC Grammar LC 25-24
The Hawk’s game this week was an absolute nail-biting one against Grammar, yet the girls played incredibly well to maintain their undefeated streak! Hawks won the game by a single goal, the final score 25-24. Madeline Chidgey was awarded player of the match, being instrumental in carefully paced and placed passing when playing WA, and some excellent shooting in GS!
