The Cross Country is now scheduled to take place on Thursday 17 September in the last week of Term 3. The event is non-compulsory for Senior students and only those that have nominated will compete. Twelve-year-olds in Middle School wishing to compete for the age championship will need to nominate to compete against the 12-year-olds in Year 6. This race will be the last race of the primary program and 12-year-olds in Year 7 will need to meet with the teacher at the kiss and go at the end of lesson 2 to be escorted to the fields on the day. All Middle School students will participate.
Morning – Primary School
Middle – Middle School
Afternoon – Senior School
Term 3 Touch Football nominations
It is highly likely that Touch Football will go ahead in Term 3 with all protocols in place. GCC students have had the opportunity to nominate to play and at this stage, we currently have eight teams to enter into the Wednesday SCISSA competition. If there are any students that wish to play and have missed out on the nomination process they should email Mr Beattie.
- Home and Away as normal
- All hygiene precautions are taken by players and officials
- Maximum of 100 people at a venue
- There will be strictly no spectators – this ensures we have control over the numbers of people at venues.
The draw will be out at the start of Term 3. It may be staggered a bit with game times to keep under 100 people at venues.
Secondary Athletics Carnival
The GCC Track and Field events will take place in Week 2 of Term 3. The Primary event will be on Thursday 23 July and Secondary on Friday 24 July.
These events will take place at Skippy park on Old Landsborough Road.
Preparation for the carnival will begin next week with 100m time trials for middle school students. These will be run during core PE classes before the end of this term. The fastest students from these trials will compete in the A division 100m races on carnival day. B division 100m races on carnival day will only take place for open age groups.
Students will be asked to nominate to compete in the 800m and 1500m events. These will take place this term for middle school students during Friday Middle School sport, Week 8 (800m) and Week 9 (1500m).
Year 10 students will complete these events during Wednesday core PE; 100m trials in Week 8, 800m in Week 9, and the 1500m in Week 1 of Term 3.
The javelin, triple jump, and high jump will be completed by Middle School and Year 10 students during core PE. Year 11 and 12 students will nominate to compete in these races and a time will be confirmed for them to take place.
The only change to the carnival program this year is the replacement of the high jump event with tug of war.
Middle School groups
The Middle Sschool SCUBA diving course will recommence at the beginning of Term 3.
Senior School groups
The Senior School groups undertaking Certificate II in SCUBA Diving (outdoor recreation) have been participating in theory sessions in recent weeks. It has been necessary to compact the B group itinerary for Year 10s into a shorter timeframe. Practical dive sessions will now take place in the student free week. See below.
Friday Middle School Sport
For the remainder of this term, the majority of students will participate in sporting activities within their year levels. Opportunities exist for students to participate in Mountain biking, SCISSA Touch Football training, and Basketball training. Nomination forms have been emailed to students for training activities. If you missed out on this process you will need to nominate for teams by emailing Mr Beattie on [email protected]
The sports program for Week 7 will be:
