How to nominate for district trials

Students have the opportunity to attend district trials for a variety of sports. The majority of these trials take place in Term 1.

There is a new process being rolled out in 2020 when nominating for all Independent District Sports.

Students need to come to the Sports Department to get the generic Independent District Trial Nomination Form.  This form will have a code on the form for the particular sport you want to nominate for. All nominations are now completed by parents online.

An email will be sent to parents with all the information on how the new nomination process works.

Dates for the district trials are listed below. Students are encouraged to read the school notices each week to ensure these opportunities are not missed.

SCISSA Sports Term 1 (after school sport)

In Term 1 AFL will be introduced to the SCISSA competition. This will be held on Monday afternoons after school and all the games will be held at a central venue, Kawana sports fields. Volleyball will again be taking place on Wednesdays after school in a home and away format with home games being held in the GCC Sports Centre.

Students new to the school that are interested in playing for a SCISSA team need to contact Mr Beattie via email.

GCC will be running a bus to and from AFL games on Mondays. A bus will also be offered to Volleyball players on Wednesdays travelling to and from away games.

In recent years we have had numerous successes from our teams on the Volleyball courts. We are looking forward to continuing these successes and the ability for all GCC teams to participate in regular training sessions in our new sports complex.

SCISSA Volleyball will commence in Week 3. Nominations were taken at the end of 2019, therefore, if you are new to the college and interested in this sport, please report to the PE staffroom at your earliest convenience to ensure your name is added to the squad for trials.

Students playing in SCISSA volleyball teams from Years 7, 8 and 9 will have a practice session on Friday of Week 1 during the Middle School sports time. A bus will transport students to the Caloundra Indoor sports centre, leaving from the bus departure area at 12:45pm.

Aside from SCISSA, our successful Volleyball teams will have the opportunity to compete at the regional level in the Trish Buckley tournament and at the state level schools cup later in the year.

This term GCC will be entering a senior boys soccer team into the SCISSA competition. There are currently only six girls nominated for a girls team. If more girls have not nominated by the end of Week 1 a girls team will not be entered. Mr Modlin will be coaching the boys.

2020 is going to be another exciting year of netball at GCC. Nominations went out last year for expressions of interest to represent the College in one of our netball teams.

We will be running trials for the teams on Thursday 30 January Week 1 and Monday 3 February Week 2 to select teams. If you have not already nominated and you are interested in trying out, please contact the sports department before the trials.

The Sunshine Coast Netball competition starts on Monday 2 March and there are 11 rounds in this competition.

Secondary students from across the school will have the opportunity to complete their PADI SCUBA diving accreditation in Term 1 this year. Students were asked to register their interest in Term 4 of last year and we now have enough numbers to go ahead with the program. Middle School students will complete the Junior Open Waters certificate during sports time and Senior students will complete their accreditation as part of a Vetis funded certificate II in Outdoor Recreation to be run on Wednesday afternoons. Seniors will also receive their boat license and Senior First Aid certification as part of their training. Should this program continue into 2021, students that already have attained their PADI open water certification during Middle School years can undertake the PADI Advanced open water or Rescue Divers certification as part of the Certificate II offered to Seniors.

Please notify Mr Beattie via email if you have registered your interest and are now no longer able to participate in either of these programs.
