Secondary District Athletics 2018

  • August 22, 2018

GCC athletes competed at this year’s District Athletics carnival under pristine conditions. The longer (8:30am to 5pm) format of events was expected not to suit the smaller schools with some GCC athletes competing in as many as eight different events in one day.

The bigger schools in Matthew Flinders and St Andrews had the advantage with larger teams consisting of specialist athletes competing in just one or two events.

To the credit of GCC athletes, they competed hard throughout the day, battling the effects of cramp and tiredness to represent our school with pride. Our students not only competed in a long list of events but achieved fantastic results and lifted our school from our previous best, 8th place in 2017 to an amazing 5th placed finish for 2018.

Special mention is given to Cassidy Ferris. She is certainly one of our most talented athletes. After finishing 2nd in the age championship rankings in 2017, she managed to go one better and finish in first place this year to take home this prestigious medal.

Congratulations to the following students who finished 1st, 2nd or 3rd in their events. Students finishing 1st and 2nd have been invited to attend the Sunshine Coast Regional Athletic Trials. Students finishing 3rd will be invited to attend only under certain circumstances.

Thank you to all students that represented GCC in this event.
