Perfect conditions and not a cloud in the sky for this year’s Secondary Athletics Carnival. Unfortunately, the recent deluge of rain we experienced in the lead up, did have an effect on the High Jump event with several age groups postponed for some weeks.
The large number of athletes involved from Sinai, Ararat and Zion, ensured maximum participation points for their teams and provided an excellent day out for all spectators.
Sinai got out to an early lead after dominating many of the relay races. It was Zion however that took the lead after the first rotation of events and they managed to stretch this lead further throughout the day.
Congratulations to our record breakers. Incredibly, this year we had 18 new records set. Cassidy Ferris deserves a special mention for setting a total of five new records. Lainey Grieve is also congratulated for setting three new records.
Congratulations to the following record breakers:
100m – Cassidy Ferris, Liam Brown, Declan Martin, Ronan Martin, Harry Fullerton
200m – Cassidy Ferris
Shot Put – Cassidy Ferris
Long Jump – Lainey Grieve, Cassidy Ferris, Thomas Holley
High Jump – Lainey Grieve, Ebony King, Declan Martin
Triple Jump – Lainey Grieve
Javelin – Cassidy Ferris
1500m – Lilli-Jean Cruise, Bakani Kombanie, Thomas Holley
Congratulations to all age champions. These athletes have competed to a high standard across many track and field events to win this prestigious award.
All age champions will be celebrated at this year’s sports awards evening in Term 4.
