School Libraries Devoted to You

We recently celebrated Queensland School Library Week (QSLW). This year’s theme,  ‘Devoted to You’ aptly reflects the commitment that our library team brings to their role in supporting teaching and learning, encouraging a love of reading, and valuing and enhancing the well-being of our students who spend time in the library. These areas were highlighted in the survey ‘What do you love about the library?’ that we sent to staff and students during QSLW. Many answers reflected our vision to CONNECT, COLLABORATE, CHALLENGE, CREATE and CELEBRATE…

Our new library spaces were a popular answer in the survey. Over the holidays the library underwent a refurbishment with some minor structural changes, new paint and carpet. We updated our junior library shelving and are looking forward to the arrival of new desks, chairs and soft furnishings to continue the transformation in the coming month. Stay tuned for details in an upcoming newsletter article.

Primary students were invited to explore the new spaces and get a behind-the-scenes view with a ‘QSLW Library Tour’ that proved to be very popular. New and existing students loved visiting the compactor space where we store resources, visiting the new library meeting room, meeting Mrs McKee in Future Pathways, Mr Munyard and the IT team at the Tech Desk and exploring their IT offices, and seeing where library staff process new resources and books in the library workroom. The highlights of the tour for many included visiting the Board Room above the library and getting to scan and return a book at the library counter.

Students across Secondary are enjoying the refurbished library spaces for classes, study and activities at lunch. Quiet nooks for reading, areas for working together and opportunities for special interest groups to meet are some of the activities students are enjoying so far this term. A number of students have also commented that the new layout makes it feel more spacious and modern.

We look forward to watching our refurbishment continue to unfold and the many events and activities that will be hosted at the Library in 2023. We invite students, staff and families to come and borrow a book, play a game, learn something new and experience our amazing library spaces. We look forward to seeing you soon!
