Removing the Border Between the ‘Real World’ and the Classroom

Each year, the Humanities classes participate in over 10 incursions and excursions, across Years 7-10, all as part of the regular topics and studies that we engage in with our students.

We have guest speakers from all walks of life, including war veterans, historians, immigrants to Australia, Holocaust survivors, and so many more.

We take students locally, to look at the significance of our gorgeous hinterland, as well as to Brisbane, for study trips and museums, to experience something a little bigger.

The goal of these experiences is to enrich students’ educational experiences beyond the traditional classroom environment. Both incursions and excursions are intended to make learning more engaging, interactive, and applicable to real-world contexts, ultimately supporting students’ academic growth and personal development.

Most students won’t remember exactly what they learnt day-to-day in our classes, but they will remember the experiences they had along the way, especially when meeting someone who has shared their lived experiences or going somewhere that shows students what we teach is not detached from the world around them.

It is a privilege to live in a place where education and learning come alive, and where we can bless our students and prepare them to be the critical thinkers and global citizens of the world to come.
