Four students from GCC represented the Independent District at the Sunshine Coast School Sport Trials this week. They played every other district team in a round-robin format competition.
Abbie Stevens was a key player in the girls’ team playing as a middle. She read the play well, controlled the ball, and often called the plays for her team being the glue in the middle of the field.
Charlie Barrons, Cody Jackson, and Blake Eather played really well in the boys’ games which were played at a fast pace. Skills and speed were key in their games and our boys worked hard in both attack and defense.
The boys’ team was very excited to win the Shoot Out competition. Every player is involved in quick two-on-one games with most of the team having the chance to attack and defend. The boys beat Coastal in round 2 and then defeated Nambour in the final.
Both the girls and boys Independent teams finished fourth overall from the seven districts which was a great effort as the teams were only together for 2 weeks prior to the competition. The girls won 2 games, drew 1 game, and lost 3 games and the boys won 3 games and lost 3 games. Students enjoyed the experience and made many new friends from other schools.
