Red Ribbon Success for Year 7 Readers Cup Team

The final competition in this year’s Sunshine Coast Regional Readers Cup calendar was held at Matthew Flinders Anglican College earlier this term. After four exciting and intense rounds, our Year 7 team proudly claimed second place at the end of the night!

The Readers Cup is a statewide competition that challenges students’ teamwork, memory, and comprehension skills across a set list of novels. Our dedicated team rose to the challenge, reading all five titles and meeting regularly to quiz each other, discuss themes, and sharpen their recall – they even met over Zoom during the holidays!

On competition night, their enthusiasm, collaboration, and quick thinking shone through as they tackled each round with confidence and energy. Their impressive effort earned them a well-deserved place on the leaderboard – a great reflection of their commitment, teamwork, and love of reading.

A heartfelt thank you to the families who supported the team throughout their preparation and provided transport to the event.

Congratulations to Amelia, Hannah, Lauren, Macey, and Matilda on representing Glasshouse Christian College with excellence. We are so proud of your outstanding achievement!

This wonderful result tops off our 2025 Readers Cup secondary competitions brilliantly.
We finish the year celebrating some outstanding achievements:

  • Year 8 – 1st Place and competed at the State Finals
  • Year 7 – 2nd Place
  • Year 9/10 – 3rd Place

All teams loved the excitement of competing, and placing on the leaderboard across all regional divisions in 2025 is a fantastic accomplishment. Our avid readers represented GCC with enthusiasm, teamwork, and a genuine love of reading. It has been wonderful to have these reading competition opportunities once again this year.

Our talented readers from Year 5–10 were also invited to our annual Readers Cup Breakfast to celebrate their passion for reading and teamwork throughout the year. We were thrilled to be joined by several Year 11 and 12 students, whose incredible Readers Cup journey spans up to six years!  It was a fantastic morning of friendship, fun, and food — and a joy to see the love of reading continuing to grow across our school community.

A huge shout-out to all our amazing teams and their achievements this year — we’re so proud of you all!
