Rebecca Johnson author visit

Rebecca Johnson, author of the best-selling Juliet, Nearly a Vet series and the winner of the 2015 Prime Minister’s Prize for teaching Primary School Science visited the College recently. Rebecca ran sessions with the Prep – Year 3 classes and shared her narrative writing process, igniting the students’ imagination with storytelling and drama activities. Just over 75 students attended the highly anticipated ‘Nearly a Vet Conventionto practise their vetting skills on stuffed animals with their Nearly a Vet Kit. It certainly was a sight to see so many excited students from across Primary attend in their white lab coats!

Students are lining up to borrow Rebecca Johnson’s Steve Parish Story Book Collection and the Pascal Press Reptile and Insect Series, as well as her new Vet Cadet series. Rebecca’s past experience as a wildlife carer has given her an extra insight into the behaviour of our native animals, giving her stories a taste of realism. Many titles also include strong links to the Australian Curriculum, presenting facts and scientific knowledge with stunning photographs. For more information about Rebecca’s books and how to order copies or a Nearly a Vet Kit go to her website.

Library Bag Reminder

Library bags are required for Prep – Year 2 iDiscover library lessons and are a great way to promote organisational skills and encourage regular borrowing habits. Students who bring library bags consistently receive a prize at the end of each term. Library Bags are available for sale at the Uniform Shop for $12 and Parents/Caregivers are reminded to ensure that Prep – Year 2 students have one and that they bring it regularly to school each week.
