Looking for a recommendation for a great book to read over the coming break? Ask our Year 8 Readers Cup team for some fantastic suggestions – they’re confident they can recommend a few! For this year’s Sunshine Coast Regional Readers Cup Competition these avid readers set out on their own reading marathon in preparation for this tough but exciting and challenging competition.
Our enthusiastic team; Aimee Cullen, Elizabeth Walters, Ellie Nyenhof, Abi Sidey and Danny Draper took on the challenge of each reading the five books set for the regional competition. A total of 1479 pages of interesting characters, intriguing plots and a myriad of details were perused with a degree of scrutiny in preparation for competing against 16 other teams of Year 8s from across the Sunshine Coast.
The excitement at the competition was intense! As students huddled around their team clipboard listening to each question, they whispered answers in their team cluster to ensure nothing was revealed to anyone else! It was wonderful to see our students compete with enthusiasm and to see the way they encouraged and supported each other to do their best. This year, the team placed in the top of the field just one point behind third place!
The competition was a wonderful way to celebrate the joy of reading and a time to connect with others who love to read and excitedly talk about it! Interviewing our students afterwards revealed just how much they enjoyed their team and the books.
