It has been a whirlwind first couple of weeks back at GCC this year but it is so good to be a part of a team. We have a growing team of well-equipped pastors that are passionate for young people and passionate for the good news of Jesus. The Pastors team is here for emotional and spiritual support, aiming to “raise the spiritual temperature” of the College. Here’s what we’ve been up to so far.
Welcome back Joc!
We are so blessed to have Joc Carolissen back from maternity leave and she’s excited to show off her little ray of sunshine, Summer Carolissen. Joc is a bundle of energy but we’ve got to remember to feed her or she’ll get ‘hungxiety’ (anxious from being hungry). She’s stepping right back into all things Primary School and loving every minute of it.
Welcome to Pastor Sydney!
Welcome to our newest addition to the GCC Pastors family, Pastor Syd. Syd loves collecting vinyl records and is in his own words a “sneaker-head”. He’s here five days a week taking on Secondary School pastoral care, running our Middle School faith space “Activate”, running programs with Secondary boys and Chapels. It’s great to have him on the team!
Chapel
Our theme Bible verse this year is the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” We love the idea that the fruit is what shows in your life when your roots go deep into God’s love for you in Jesus. This year we want to encourage you to pursue Christ so that this fruit would show more and more in your life.
Leadership Camp
Pastor Fi and Pastor Syd were able to help set the tone for the school year with the leaders of the college at the 2020 Leadership camp. They were blown away by our new captains and their philosophy of putting people over projects and seeking the Why behind what we do. Here’s praying for more great things to come from these great captains.
All of us as Pastors are thrilled to be working together to spread the love of Jesus around our campus and we’d love to partner with you in prayer as we begin another very busy and very blessed year. Would you pray with us?
Here are some things you might like to pray for:
- For our Pastoral team to work exceptionally well together with new team members
- That we (as pastors and as a school) maintain our focus on Jesus and stay plugged into Him so that His fruit will grow in us
- That we would never put what we want to do over the young people we are called to love and serve
- For our Faith Captains and other College leaders to be good examples and lead with integrity and honour
