The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton Relay (QBR) travelled through Caloundra on Tuesday 27 March and GCC were right there. Mrs Stott took the Primary House Captains to cheer on the athletes and experience the excitement of the upcoming Commonwealth Games. Lily Breen made an awesome banner and Max Cashin, Indiah Loveday and Brooke Gledhill were all armed with flags to wave.
While waiting for the baton to arrive the students had a great morning of trying out athletics, watching talented gymnasts perform and listening to cultural presentations of dance and singing by the Gubbi Gubbi Dance Troupe.
As the Queen’s Baton came closer to Kings Beach Amphitheatre we lined the runway to get a first row look at the baton arriving. We cheered and high fived Riley Moore as he carried the baton up onto the stage for the public celebration and handover to the next baton bearer.
It was great to be part of this community celebration and these students will remember this experience for many years to come.
