Year 2 students’ 15 minutes of fame
Since the last newsletter our students have continued to shine and proudly represent our College. During Year 2’s visit to Australia Zoo, they were asked to film a video with Bindi Irwin and the results are gorgeous. If you missed this cute video on Facebook, you can view it here:
At the other end of the College, Stephanie Ferris was asked to interview on ABC radio about the College’s awards in Agricultural Science. Not only did Stephanie do a fantastic job, she did it bouncing in the back of a bus on the return trip from Warwick. You can listen to Stephanie’s radio by clicking here – then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click play.
Textile awards
Our Textile students submitted five designs in two of the three categories in the Regional Fashion Design Competition. Congratulations to Lani Kombanie who came first in formal wear and Kasey Barbeler who were was runner-up in that category. Due to the high quality of the entries all of the garments are going to be submitted at the Queensland titles later next month to be held at Mt Gravatt.
Volunteers’ Lunch
We love our volunteers at GCC and even though there is no way to truly express our appreciation, each year we say thank you by inviting them to a sumptuous lunch and giving them a small gift. This year we had more volunteers than usual due to the huge amount of hours put into the P and F’s very successful Funfest.
Hospitality students served up a delicious three-course lunch and I heard many people say it was the best one yet. We gave our volunteers a portable phone recharger as their gift which was gratefully received.
The Volunteers’ Lunch was a lovely event made all the more special by having such wonderful volunteers as the honoured guests. More photos here.
Dressing up for a good cause
It’s been a term of dressing up with Islander Day, Middle School Chill Out Day and Primary Vana Day. All these events followed Book Week which was celebrated in style by Primary and Secondary students.
This year Secondary students celebrated Character Day on Monday while Primary students held their annual parade on Thursday. Next year we are combining the date so everyone gets dressed up on the same day. I think it will give the College a great atmosphere having so much creativity expressed at the same time.
Many of you know Pinterest is a great place to share ideas and interests so GCC has set up a Pinterest account for those who are interested. It’s still in the early stages with boards for Learning, Fun, Sports, Performing Arts and Holiday ideas and crafts (just in time for the September school holidays).
We have also added one for healthy lunch box ideas as I know it is a constant challenge to come up with something wholesome that children are going to want to eat. Many of our Kitchen Garden recipes will also find their way onto this board.
We have a lot more building to do and would love to hear from you about what you would like to see on the boards. If you have some ideas can you please email them to:

Holidays
This is probably one of the favourite holidays of the year as we don’t have the rain common at Easter and the water is a little warmer than it is during the July holidays.
If you are taking advantage of the great outdoors by camping or maybe just enjoying day trips to the beach, take a moment to thank God for His beautiful creation and all the wonderful things He has made. Stay safe and enjoy!
