Early Morning District Athletics Training

A small but dedicated group of students braved the early morning chill to take part in winter athletics training, preparing for the District Athletics Carnival. Supported by coaches and staff members, students sharpened their skills across Long Jump, Shot Put, Discus, Sprints, and High Jump–getting a strong start to the competition season.

District Athletics Carnival

GCC proudly entered 68 qualifiers in the 9–12 Years Independent District Athletics Carnival, with students competing across a wide range of track and field events. Athletes from 11 colleges across the district took to the UniSC Athletics Track, representing their schools with pride while striving for selection in the Regional Team.

Congratulations to the following age groups whose collective results earned GCC’s strong overall team rankings against other schools:

  • 9 Years Boys – 3rd
  • 10 Years Girls – 3rd
  • 11 Years Boys – 2nd
  • 12 Years Boys – 1st

Our College achieved its highest overall placing to date, finishing 4th on school points out of the 11 colleges competing, which is an outstanding result.

Regional Athletic Qualifiers:

Congratulations to the following students who qualified to continue their competitive journey at the Sunshine Coast Region 10–19 Years Track and Field Trial, as members of the Independent District Team.

SCISSA Friendlies Term 3

(Boys A Div Volleyball, playing in the Suncoast indoor stadium against SCC)

Our Primary SCISSA teams recently took on Suncoast Christian College in a scheduled Friendly match that celebrated teamwork, skill, and sportsmanship. GCC Basketball, AFL, and Volleyball teams headed to Suncoast Christian College, while SCC brought their Touch Football, Olympic Handball, Netball, and Soccer teams to our College for an exciting challenge.

Students showed great enthusiasm and determination across every game, demonstrating the results of their hard work at training. These matches provided a wonderful opportunity for players to strengthen their skills, engage in healthy competition, and boost their confidence. Coaches were thrilled with the effort from all teams and the positive atmosphere throughout the afternoon.

Unfortunately, the scheduled SCISSA Friendly match against Pacific Lutheran College was cancelled due to wet weather and unplayable fields. While disappointing, students are looking forward to the upcoming GALA Day event, scheduled for Week 8.

State Tennis Representative

Hadley had an incredible run at State Tennis, competing in both the singles and mixed doubles team events. Over four action-packed days, Hadley played six singles and four doubles matches. A highlight for her was going up against the world’s highest-ranked 12-year-old girl–an unforgettable experience! Hadley finished 13th overall in the state for singles and helped her mixed doubles team claim 2nd place. The Sunshine Coast achieved an impressive 3rd place overall.
