Hayley Wall – Australian Showjumping Champion, once again!

Once again, Hayley rode exceptionally well at the AELEC (Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre) at Tamworth for the 2024 Marcus Oldham Australian Interschool Championships, where she represented Queensland. While other students were enjoying their school holidays at the beach, Hayley was showjumping for her chance to defend her 2023 title as Australian Interschool Show Jumping Champion. Hayley rode Diehard Diva in two showjumping height classes winning first place as the Australian Primary Champion in the 80cm class and placing third in the 90cm class. Hayley had to complete three jump rounds at each of her competitive heights over the three days to take out her title. Congratulations to Hayley for the dedication and hard work she has put in all year to achieve such outstanding results.

P – 2 Athletics Carnival

The Prep to Year 2 Athletics Carnival is always a day to remember each year, with fun and excitement bubbling from all students involved. Once again the carnival landed on the hottest day of winter, without a cloud to be seen in the sky.

Students rotated through the first section of the day competing in Sprints, Shot Put, Long Jump, Discus, Tug-of-War and a ‘ninja warrior’ themed Obstacle Course.

After a break to re-fuel and a great BBQ run by the P and F students geared up for the second section of the day, which included 18 tabloid rounds. The Lower Primary students especially enjoyed having the support of 6W alongside the Sports House Captains, who ran each of the tabloid events.

Ethan was the third Queenslander to finish his race, winning a silver team medal. Sophie and Ethan ran the team relay to represent the Sunshine Coast, alongside two other students from Nambour Christian College, placing 14th.

SCISSA GALA Day #3

The SCISSA GALA events are always filled with excitement, as students gear up for a full day of sport. Many GCC teams performed at the top of their game, coming in the top three places at the end of the day once all game points were tallied up. Coaches are always impressed with the positive attitude and sportsmanship that GCC students display on and off the field. Please view the table below recording where each GCC team was placed on the progressive ladder.

NFL Program

This Term Mr Bennett completed his online NFL Flag accreditation. Following the completion of this course, the Australian NFL Flag Development Officer visited the College to teach two classes the skills, drills and techniques associated with the NFL Flag, which students thoroughly enjoyed.

Prep PE Swimming Intensive

Each Prep class enjoyed their first swimming lesson with the Bluefit swimming instructors at Beerwah Aquatic Centre. Students were split into six ability-based groups to work on water safety and swimming techniques. Following the four-day swimming intensive students will be more prepared for playing and swimming around water this coming summer.

TWP Tennis

A new 2025 initiative to GCC this term was the TWP Tennis program. Mark, who is the owner and head coach, offered a free trial for students and quickly booked out. Coach Mark smashed his delivery with high-class coaching and had plenty of happy students hitting and playing tennis with a smile. More than 25 students registered for the after-school TWP Tennis program.
