Primary School News

This week we have Anna Korab working with us in the Primary College on the explicit teaching of writing.

Anna, who is from Melbourne, is an amazing teaching consultant and researcher who works with schools all over the world to help students improve writing. She has worked in the Bronx in New York and inner London schools as well as schools in outback Queensland, Northern Territory and Victoria.

During the pupil free week in January, Anna presented a one day workshop to our staff (teacher and teaching assistants) including secondary English teachers on the explicit teaching of writing using the six traits of writing and seven steps to writing success.

The feedback this week from students and teachers and even one parent has been amazing. We hosted a Curriculum Leaders Network meeting at GCC today where Anna presented the research and framework for excellent writing.

I am very confident that our partnership with Anna as she works with our staff and students this year and into the future will give our students the strategies they need to become effective writers.
