I don’t know how you, as parents feel, but as staff we came back to school for Term 2 feeling that Term 1 just ‘evaporated’ into nothing with the closure of all schools as a result of the cyclone.

But, we are now well into Term 2 and teachers are in full swing teaching and assessing for the Semester 1 report.

Term 2 is a nine week term and every day counts, so please be mindful of this and make every endeavour to have children at school each day if at all possible. Days absent at this time of year particularly have an impact on students’ results – either by missing new work and revision, or having to work on assessment tasks at a later date rather than doing them as a whole class during planned assessment time.

Of course if your child is genuinely unwell they need to stay home to recover but if you can avoid unnecessary absences, it would be in your child’s best interests.

Our College Open Day is on Saturday 20 May (10:00am – 2:00pm) and historically we use this day to ‘showcase’ students work in each classroom and invite new families and current families to come and experience what is happening throughout the school. This is an opportunity, not just for those who are interested in learning about what the College can offer their children, but for our existing families to enjoy the entertainment, performances, food, train rides and a walk through not only your own children’s classrooms but also other primary and secondary rooms. So come and experience what is happening this year and also the exciting things on offer for your child in future years. This is your chance to visit other primary areas, Hospitality, Industrial Technology, The DeLorean Project and a number of exciting educational initiatives at Glasshouse Christian College.
