Runners give it all at Primary Cross Country

What a great day of running and cheering we had at the Primary Cross Country this week. The day began with thunderous war cries from each of our house teams with Sinai being judged the loudest and most energetic. Zion were the most consistent cheer team throughout the day, continuing to encourage their team members until all runners had completed the course.

The students had been training well before the holidays but with two weeks holidays we wondered how they would go. The enthusiasm showed as many students had run during the holidays to retain the fitness gained in the Baton Relay in Term 1.

There were some fantastic races with many having a leader established early showing smooth running styles and great fitness. The lead changed several times in a few races with determination and tenacity often being the difference between first and second.

It was fantastic to see students trying their very best to keep jogging even when they were puffed out. Friends encouraged each other to keep running and do their best for their team. The house team with the first four runners home were awarded Teams Race ribbons with Ararat winning five of these team races, Sinai two and Zion one.

Random placings were also chosen before each race and students who finished in these two places were awarded Lucky Place prizes. The Teams Race and Lucky Place winners give incentive for students to keep running and finish in the best placings possible.

Lily Breen, Ben Ramke and Sophie Sharma all established a big lead on the field winning their races by over a minute but Jared and Olivia McKenzie were over two minutes ahead of the second placegetters.

The first three placegetters in the 10 year and older age groups have been selected to represent Glasshouse Christian College at the District Cross Country Championships to be held in Week 3.

The results of the 8 – 12 years races are below.
