This term, the Primary Chess Club at Glasshouse Christian College which is open to students from Year 1 to Year 6, has been buzzing with excitement as students have participated in an in-house chess competition. With up to 30 members attending each week, the club has become a lively hub of strategic thinking and camaraderie.
Throughout the term, students have been matched against others with similar abilities, ensuring that everyone has a fair and enjoyable experience. The competition has been structured so that winners earn 1 point, while a draw results in 0.5 points. Each week, we proudly acknowledge our high scorer and keep a close eye on the overall top scorer.
One of the most heartening aspects of the club is the kindness and support students show each other. Whether they’re sharing new strategies or helping a peer understand a tricky move, the atmosphere is one of mutual encouragement and learning.
Looking ahead to next term, we are excited to announce that the club will be expanding into two distinct competitions: a masters comp for our more experienced players and a novice comp for those still honing their skills. This change will allow us to continue fostering both skill development and a love for the game.
We are thrilled to see the growth and enthusiasm in our young chess players and look forward to another exciting term of strategic fun!
