Primary Athletics Carnival – best day ever!

There was plenty of action all day at the Year 3 – Year 6 Athletics Carnival held at Skippy Park last week. Students decorated tents, sang war cries and cheered their teams on throughout the day gathering as many points as possible for their team. Sinai and Zion were out to topple Ararat from their winning streak all year so every student participated fully.

The day began with the 800m races and then students rotated around four field events and the 200m run during a series of rotations with the 100m finals being raced in the middle of the day. Some fantastic performances were seen and 14 records were broken throughout the day.

This year we had the help of the senior Sport and Recreation class so students could compete in smaller groups allowing more participation throughout the day. It was great to have help from many parents and of course the teachers did a fantastic job of running each event.

Age Champions have been calculated and there were several close contests to gain the title of Age Champion with some only separated by a few points.

After the day of competition, the points from the Year 3 – 6 carnival saw Sinai finish as the winning team followed by Zion and Ararat. Could Zion and Sinai hold out the always determined Ararat team? The Senior Carnival showed Zion to be the overall winner.

It was great to see so many parents and grandparents supporting the children at the carnival. Children love showing their skills to family and friends and your encouragement for all students is much appreciated.

The GCC team to compete at the Glasshouse District 9 – 12 year Carnival was selected from this day with qualifying standards being applied to some events. We look forward to seeing how our team performs at this next carnival and hope they have a successful day.
