Primary SCISSA

The first SCISSA GALA was enjoyed by all in the action-packed final week of school last term.  Students boarded an entourage of buses heading to 8 locations within the Sunshine Coast last week. Students in grades 4-6 playing 7 rounds of games in various age and levelled divisions. The rain put a stop on a couple of the sports for about an hour but that couldn’t even stop GCC students from playing their hardest. Please click on this online link to view the draw from the day.

Upper Primary Running Challenge

In preparation for the year 3-6 Cross Country Carnival students had the opportunity to participate in the Running Challenge. This program while improving running stamina in preparation for the Cross Country Carnival allowed each class to run several times a week together. Throughout this program, students had the opportunity to be awarded one of three awards per class over the course of the program.

The class teacher had the responsibility of selecting 3 students from their class who displayed the following qualities when training for cross country:

  1. Bolt – For the student who has run the fastest or run the most laps per session.
  2. Rising Star- Most improved student. For example, they improved their running from 1 lap per session to 4 laps per session.
  3. High Five – The most encouraging or helpful student along the way. eg. This student has an eye for seeing if a student is walking by themselves and chooses to stick with them to help them along the way.

Primary Cross Country

Primary Cross Country was held during the last week of Term 1. Students took off to the cheer of students and music pumping. Although it was a warm day students put in as always their best effort and ran the races hard and fast. There were some very close finishes. The Primary GCC sporting culture of supporting one another on and cheering everyone through to the finish line as racers finish is a quality that is celebrated.

Points were tallied and unfortunately, there can only be one overall House Winner:

Third: Sinai on 142 points
Second: Ararat on 157 points
First: Zion on 173 points
