Prep got our hands dirty recently. We had a visit from a real-live artist! Matt from a company called Raw Art came to give us a sculpture lesson. We made snails out of clay. We cut a leaf shape out of paper first, then shaped clay in very precise ways, using tools to scratch a rough surface to help the snail’s body and shell bond together. At the end of the lesson, we painted our little creations. There were lots of instructions to listen to. Matt the Artist was very patient with the class and was very encouraging as we learned from mistakes.
The official name for a group of snails is an “escargatorie”, a “rout” or a “walk” of snails. If you visited a Prep class on Open Day, you may have seen a little escargoterie of snails on display. Sweet!
