The sun shone brightly and the weather was perfect on 4 June. Our Under 8s’ session was a huge success! Prep to Year 2 students could choose from a number of activities; self-face painting, fabric weaving, treasure hunt, cafe role play, painting, parachuting and the very popular cardboard construction – just to name a few!
Play is more than just a good way to fill your time. The skills and strategies involved in play in the early years can echo into adulthood. Teachers used our Under 8s’ Day session as another opportunity to talk with students about social skills such as taking turns, inviting others to play and how to be a good friend.
We plan to run Under 8s’ Day in the alternate year to Funfest. This year we were pleased to open the invitation to play to our under 8s’ siblings and parents. The smiles on the children’s faces were priceless! My bucket was filled on a number of occasions when students ran up to me and said ‘I shared my treasure so that my friend had some too’. Our students are kind, caring and thoughtful. I am enormously proud of them!
