Paul O’Sullivan – Illustrator Book Launch

Few stories strike as deeply as The Photographer; it goes straight to the heart. This groundbreaking picture book, written by Mark Rafidi and illustrated by Paul O’Sullivan, draws readers into the centre of a conflict, capturing a powerful moment in time. As an army moves through a town, a war photographer follows with his camera, ready to capture the raw truth.

At Glasshouse Christian College, we have a growing collection of picture books created for older readers – books that challenge, provoke, and transform. Through the interplay of image and text, these stories engage both the imagination and the intellect, inviting readers to grapple with complex themes such as morality, empathy, and the human condition. The Photographer is a powerful example of how picture books can speak strongly to mature readers, leaving a lasting emotional and reflective impact.

Paul’s remarkable work was recently celebrated at The Photographer Book Launch, marking another milestone in his illustration career. He is currently running lunchtime illustration sessions with our Year 5 & 6, as well as our Secondary students, sharing his passion for storytelling through art and revealing his secret to great picture books: the third narrative that emerges when words and images are combined. The Photographer is available for sale from Hawkeye Books at this link or at a discounted price of $25 at the GCC Main Admin. EFT and Cash Sales are available. The book is best suited for students in Year 5 and up. Copies will be available for sale with a book signing at the Library during the second break for Primary and Secondary students on the following dates:

  • Monday 17 November
  • Monday 24 November

We look forward to hosting Paul for his upcoming sessions and are honoured to have an illustrator of his calibre as part of our community.
