Pastor Donna Introduces Pastor Shannon

It feels like only yesterday that I started working in the role of College Pastor here.  They say time flies when you’re having fun and boy, have the past seven years been fun.  Next term I am taking some time off to go on long service leave.  Taking time out to rest is an example that’s been set for us in scripture.  While I’m away I’ll be spending some time exploring God’s wonderful creation as I do a little overseas traveling.

I feel confident that while I am away the students are being left in extremely capable hands, which leads me to introduce you to Mrs Shannon Harrison who will be stepping into my role while I’m away

Rather than me telling you Shannon’s story we have decided to collaborate on this article to allow Shannon or Pastor Shan as she will be known by the students to share her own story with you.

Shannon here, for many of our primary students I am affectionately known as Mrs Sunshine.

As I write this, I have only been in the role for one day and can see the incredible impact the Pastors make connecting with students and letting them know they are seen, known, valued, heard, and loved. I am humbled to have the opportunity to connect in the same way with students and families in this beautiful community.

This will be my fifth year at Glasshouse Christian College. After initially starting in relief work I then moved into the Primary Learning Enhancement team. Over the years this has allowed me to work with students across the school. During this time the staff and students have become like family to me, and I am so excited to connect with these amazing students in Secondary who I have missed so much.

I serve as an accredited Pastor at Anthem Church. Over the years a large portion of my time on the team was hanging with teenagers as the Youth Pastor. Currently, I support young adults, pre-marriage counselling, parenting, and marriage. Before these roles, I was a Chaplain for SU Victoria and was able to write curriculum supporting friendship, anxiety, depression, and parenting courses.

My heart and passion is to connect with students, journeying with them into the unique fullness God has for them. I love equipping students and families with tools relative to the life circumstances we all navigate each day. I hope that if we can implement these life skills while they are developing, they will have a lifelong impact.

I have been married to my absolute dream of a husband Geoff for 22 years and have two incredible young adult children. We love connecting as a family and experiencing life as fully as possible. We also love picnicking, hiking, camping, mountain biking, and adventure holidays.

I look forward to being available to connect with students and families in our close-knit community and support you the best way I can.
