Nurturing Compassion

A Tale of Seven Compassion Children and Generosity

Compassion has been serving children living in poverty since 1952. Today, Compassion is transforming the lives of more than 2 million children around the world through more than 12 international partner country offices. More than 120,000 of these children are currently supported through Compassion Australia. The Child Sponsorship Program connects a sponsor with one child living in poverty, providing not only education and health care but also the encouragement needed to be socially confident and economically self-supporting. Poverty looks different, but the goal for each child stays the same; good health, good skills, good relationships and the opportunity to hear the Good News.

The theme for our Primary School this year has been ‘Let your Light Shine’. We have learnt about different ways that they can practically shine a light and show love in action to others. Each year level has made an ongoing commitment to partner with Compassion to sponsor a child in the Philippines.

Compassion is not limited to merely feeling for others but extends to taking concrete actions to make their lives better. In line with our theme, compassion has been the guiding light as the children in the Primary school have generously sponsored seven special children in need through the Compassion International program. The students have embraced the spirit of compassion, demonstrating generosity and care.

These children, each with a unique story and background, have become an integral part of our extended school family and we offer support through prayer, writing letters and the provision of finances. Because we see each of our seven special friends as part of the student body, we also endeavour to bless them with a special card and gift on their birthday and something special at Christmas time.

While the sponsorship of these seven Compassion children serves as an example of compassion in action, this term, our students have also actively engaged in spreading kindness and generosity in many other ways. The children have participated in the Compassion Day Pizza and Popper day,  Day for Daniel, making a gold coin donation, they have put together beautiful Christmas hampers for the Operation Christmas Child appeal and donated supplies to go towards the Daisy appeal for the homeless.

Compassion is a powerful force that binds us all together. By having the privilege to sponsor our seven special friends, our students have the opportunity to nurture generous hearts, sow seeds of kindness and care for others and be a positive change in our world.
