Netball Competition

  • May 27, 2014

On Thursday 8 and Friday 9 May the Indoor Netball Federation Queensland annual Indoor Competition was held in Caboolture.

GCCC took our two elite Netball teams, the under 15 ladies and the open ladies to compete in this competition. We were up against 49 different schools, one of the largest indoor competitions held in Queensland. We set off on the bus with a healthy mixture of excitement and nerves!

The under 15 ladies were on fire as they blitzed every one of their games on the Thursday.  They left their opposition for dead in Thursday’s games! The girls were playing so well. Very proud coaches, Deb Gisler and myself went home pumped and excited for what was to come on Friday! Their scores for the first day of competition were:

GCCC vs. Bribie Island State High 30/3
GCCC vs. Caboolture State High 29/12
GCCC vs. Sandgate State High 27/5

The open ladies, a team that, unlike the under 15s, haven’t had a lot of experience playing together had an exceptional two days of competition! The girl’s won 50% of their games on Thursday, gelling really nicely as a team during the first day. Fantastic effort ladies! Their scores for the first day of competition were:

GCCC vs. Grace Lutheran College 8/17

GCCC vs. Caboolture State High 17/5

As Friday morning rolled around, so too did our under 15 netballers as they rolled out of bed early to make their first game! The girls again, managed to win both their games, making them undefeated as they entered the Semi Finals! Their scores were:

GCCC vs. Clontarf 42/1
GCCC vs. Toowong 36/2

As for the Open ladies, they won two of the three games on the Friday, just missing out on making the semi-finals by just ONE point! Superb effort girls! Well done! Their scores for Friday were:

GCCC vs. Sandgate State High 15/14

GCCC vs. Clontarf State High 12/11

GCCC vs. Grace Lutheran College 6 – 17

The Under 15 girls successfully made it into the Semi finals (remember we were up against 49 schools!) and were ready to dominate.  So too, were the coaches and parents! Little did we know, that we’d be fortunate to walk away from the semi finals without having a heart attack from the nail biting game that it was! Some of the parents could barely watch certain moments of the game, it was that close! Oh the adrenaline!

Unfortunately, the girls couldn’t quite keep their nerves under wraps and walked away losing by just TWO points (in the last 30 seconds!).

It was a fantastic couple of days, full of many laughs, a couple of ice packs, a few sore muscles, a whole heap of competition and lots of outstanding teamwork!

Throughout the competition, the coaches were looking for the ‘Player of the Competition.’ We will continue to nominate a player of the competition for each competition that we enter this year.  We will also be awarding ‘Players Player’, which will involve the teams voting for their choice of player for each Comp. These players will be awarded on Sports Awards night later on in the year. So make sure you’re there!

A huge thanks to Deb Gisler for helping with the organisation and coaching of our Netball teams.
