Term 4 is shaping up to be a very busy time for the Music Department.

SHEP

During the school holidays, two of our senior students, Jemma Ritson and Madeleine Mullins, participated in SHEP run by the Conservatorium of Music at Griffith University. The State Honours Ensemble Program is an educational program for music students that helps extend and encourage their pursuit of musical excellence.

SHEP was an amazing opportunity to experience what it is like in a more professional Wind Orchestra and meet new people with similar, if not more, passion for music. My conductor, Mr David Law, created a super energetic room, and I greatly appreciate the laughs he brought as well as the knowledge and experience that was able to create an amazing performance with only three days of practice. Our performance was an exciting way to end our program, with five songs of varying difficulty levels. This is an experience that I will cherish forever, and I’m glad that I was able to go before I graduate.

SHEP is a very beneficial workshop that taught me many valuable skills, such as sight reading and singing in harmony whilst maintaining unison. The program offered me a great opportunity to connect with peers that share similar interests. The conductors showed a genuine interest in the choir and the repertoire. This program is highly recommended for young musicians who wish to find their place on stage.

St Columban’s Band Spectacular

On Saturday 15 October and Monday 17 October a number of our College ensembles performed at the annual St Columban’s Band Spectacular. Symphonic Winds (senior concert band), Percussion Ensemble, Big Band, Jazz Combo and Cool Voices represented the College very well. Each group was awarded Silver for their performances. This was also a wonderful opportunity for the students to watch other schools perform. Students and music directors have enjoyed the opportunity to once again perform at these events after a couple of years of cancelled performances due to Covid.

You can see all the photos here (without going through Pixevety).

Music Celebration Night

Our annual Music Celebration Night will be held on 31 October commencing at 6pm in GPAC. The night will showcase our wonderful bands, ensembles and choirs.
