GCC 1st for French in the latest Language Perfect Sunshine Coast competition and a bonus $750 prize draw – Just perfect!
It has been a very busy week and weekend for our French students but with wonderful results. Last week GCC participated in a five-day Language Perfect Competition which ended on Saturday.
Although students were already overloaded with assessment tasks due (with many having spent time away at camps) and with presentations to learn. Students still got into the spirit of the competition and put in a great effort. Our College won first place as a result and a wonderful bonus prize of $750. Congratulations to our top achieving student Thomas Quinn for coming 1st in French for our College during this competition as well as 9th on the Sunshine Coast. That was an awesome effort by Thomas in just five days! – sometimes our small contributions really do add up!
Congratulations to all our certificate winners as well as everyone for a great team effort. We recognise at GCC that each member is part of a team and we are extremely proud of everyone.
Studying languages has been shown to benefit students in terms of increased brain capacity, expanded communicative repertoire, extended literacy development, improved citizenship in local, regional and global contexts, greater knowledge and understanding of language and culture, enhanced creative and critical thinking, better knowledge of concepts across the curriculum, deeper understanding of themselves, heritage and identity, and improved employment and career prospects. It is now widely recognised that bilingual students perform better in NAPLAN tests.
