Next week our Year 7 and 9 students sit their NAPLAN tests. These tests give valuable data that helps GCC reflect on if we are best meeting the needs of our students. These tests can be daunting and tiring – please encourage our ‘NAPLANers’ and if your child is sitting the test check that they have all the necessary equipment, are well rested and have prepared themselves for the day with a healthy breakfast.
Canberra Trip and Year 9 Camp.
Year 7 and Year 9 returned at the end of Week 2 with grins on their faces albeit a wee bit tired. Once again our Year 7s have had quality exposure to our nation’s capital, through first hand experiences of seeing the government in operation, visiting our nation’s War Memorial, participating in sporting and science centres and significant exposure to iconic cultural items. Thank you to the teachers who made a huge commitment of their time to make this trip such a success.
Outdoor Ed camps always have a huge impact on a teenager’s mind; helping them realise their potential. This year, after the first day of the Year 9 camp 2-night hike, I wasn’t sure if the normally energetic bunch of girls I was with would come to this realisation. They were hard on themselves and unsure if they could make it up a very steep mountain with full back packs. However, they did it and certainly realised their potential.
