Boys in Year 5 and 6 who play Rugby League enjoyed a fun filled day when they were given the opportunity to play in the inaugural addition of the Mark West Cup Interschool Rugby League Competition.
The Mark West Cup was held at Beerwah Bulldogs recently. Peachester State School could not field a complete team so our boys joined forces with them to become the Renegades in the competition.
The carnival was run by Sunshine Coast Rugby League Development Officers who ran a coaching clinic to get the day started. The teams then moved into a round robin competition between the participating schools, Baringa State School, Maleny State School, St Michael’s College and the Peachester/GCC Renegades.
The Renegades played four games during the day winning two games and narrowly losing the other two games. The team beat St Michaels twice, once in round games and again in the 3rd/4th final. This placed them third overall with Baringa winning the competition after they drew in the final and placings had to be decided by a countback.
Boys from GCC in the Renegades team were Brent Tomokino, Charlie Geeves, Joshua Newsome, Eli Rooney, Jack Boyland, Archie Cruise, Cooper Stevens and Reggie Proctor.
A big thank you goes to Mr Greg Corkin from Maleny State School for organising this event and Mr Greg Small and Mr Glen Tomokino for coaching the team.
