Looking Back on Term 1 in Year 8

It’s incredible that Term 1 has come to an end…not that I am complaining! Term 1 has been a huge for the Year 8 students, teachers and parents. We saw the introduction of the Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) program, went on camp, participated in the swimming carnival and ran in a cross country. I am tired just thinking about it. Through all this, students have had to complete class work, juggle outside activities and hand assignments in by the due date. It has been a big Term! I would like to congratulate all students on how they have handled these events.

I would like to highlight the STEM program that has been an enormous undertaking and has involved a change in mindset by students, parents and staff. At the beginning of the term a lot of students (and teachers) struggled with the whole concept of 90 students in an open style classroom. Many parents, students (and teachers) wondered how it would work. I can honestly say, that the teachers have been amazed how the students have adapted. Many students have commented how they like the fact they can work at their own pace, sit where they want and can actually discuss and ask questions to more than one teacher. Having access to our Connect site where students are able to download lessons and watch help videos on any topic being taught has given the students a feeling of ownership of their own education. I cannot praise the students enough for their perseverance with this exciting new endeavour. I would like to thank the parents for their support and trust with their child’s education.

On behalf of the Year Teachers I would like to wish everybody a safe and enjoyable holiday and we look forward to seeing you all next term.

Please remember that Term 2 will be the Winter uniform. Boys that means belt and tie.
