Last week, teams of Secondary students competed in the first ever ‘Escape Room’ Challenge as part of celebrating Book Week and its theme of ‘Escape to Everywhere’! This competition combined the cleverness of comprehending quirky riddles together with solving a number of challenging word and number puzzles.
Students in small teams had to ‘break out’ and escape from the confines of a small space (Media suites) in our College library. Teams competed against the clock to make it out of the puzzle ‘maze’ in the shortest time with the most correct answers.
Entertainment value was high for spectators and participants alike and declaring a winner was not an easy task. Miss Gook and Mrs Morris had heaps of fun collaborating to create clues, mayhem and a little bit of chaos in the preparation and presentation of the ‘Escape Rooms’.
The winning team for the inaugural Escape Room Challenge was a competitive Year 8 team: Natalie Beakey, Kylie Bam and Jessica Bowers – well done girls on your excellent team result! The team who were Runners Up in this Challenge were: Madeleine Roulston and Steffini Twidale from Year 9.
The excitement and success of this event ensures a return of the Escape Rooms in 2018 – lookout for new challenges next year. Miss Gook and Mrs Morris have a whole year to plan for them!
