Library News: Reading Rocks with National Simultaneous Storytime

Last Friday Primary students read Alpacas with Maracas written and illustrated by Matt Cosgrove to celebrate National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS). We celebrated in style with maracas and a rollicking read online by Matt Cosgrove and Jimmy Giggle with some furry alpaca friends. Thank you to our awesome Year 6 Library Monitors who assisted with the event.

NSS is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Now in its 19th successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children’s book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.

The goals of NSS include:

  • promote the value of reading and literacy,
  • promote the value and fun of books,
  • promote an Australian writer and publisher,
  • promote storytime activities.

Don’t forget to remind your child to complete their ‘Reading Rocks’ colouring entry by Monday 3 June. Winners from each year level will be chosen from the entries received. Looking forward to filling our windows with the ‘Reading Rocks’ message!

See you in the library.
