A warm welcome to new staff, students and families that have joined the GCCC community this year. We look forward to meeting you and supporting your teaching and learning needs at the College.
New Secondary Teacher Librarian
This year we are very excited to welcome Mrs. Beryl Morris to the library team. Beryl will be working with staff and students across Years 5 -12 on Wednesdays to Fridays. She brings with her a wealth of experience and expertise and will be a wonderful asset at GCCC. Please join us in making her feel welcome.
Homework Club starts this week and will be run every Thursday afternoon in the library for Year 7-12 students. It is a great opportunity for students to seek 1-1 support from teachers and library staff.
Middle and Secondary texts have been loaned out to students. Texts have included a range of print and digital titles that can be used at home and school. This year many subjects across Year 7-10 are using eBooks via ipads and Macs. The library keeps hard copy versions of many of the titles and students are welcome to come and borrow a copy whenever they need.
Students have been reminded of their responsibility for looking after resources. Text books are borrowed on an annual or semester basis as required according to subjects. Students write their name on the insert located inside the front cover of all text books at the time of borrowing. Please encourage your child/children to regularly check they are using the copy they borrowed. It’s recommended that books borrowed by students are not left in classrooms even when used regularly. All books remain the responsibility of the student who borrowed them. They are to be cared for respectfully and kept in good condition. Text books are to be returned directly to the library by the student not via staff or other students. A replacement cost will be required for unreturned books or books damaged beyond repair.
The Koorong Kids and Scholastic Book Clubs have commenced this week, providing families in Prep to Year 12 with access to a range of affordable quality books, music and gifts. Across the year there will be 7 Scholastic Book Club issues and 4 Koorong Kids issues. Brochures have been handed out to the youngest in the family. Prep – Year 7 students receive the Scholastic and Koorong Kids brochures. Students in Year 8 – 12 receive the Koorong Kids brochures. The Book Clubs are run voluntarily by our amazing Book Club Coordinators: Kelly Yeo, Kristina Bullard and Debra James. The College receives free books and teaching resources from your purchases that allow us to regularly update our library collection with well-known titles and recently published books.
To order simply select any books your child/children would like and return the Book Club order forms to the library, with correct payment (cash, credit card or cheque). Orders need to be made separately for each Book Club and be placed in the Scholastic or Koorong Kids boxes in the library foyer. Cheques need to made payable to Scholastic Australia for the Scholastic Book Club or to Glasshouse Christian College for Koorong Kids orders. Please ensure orders are in by the closing date. No late orders will be accepted.
See you in the library,
Vanessa McKellar, Head of Library Services
