The Reading Hour

The Reading Hour is being celebrated across Australia from 5pm-6pm on Saturday 24 August as part of the National Year of Reading.  All College families are encouraged to get involved, particularly those with younger children. The event aims to promote reading at home, by encouraging parents/caregivers to share a book with their child for 10 minutes a day or an hour a week. Regularly reading with your child will give them the best chance of becoming a good reader. Encouraging older students to enjoy reading, as a break from their studies, is a wonderful way to continue to develop their literacy skills, which flows into all areas of their studies. What a great opportunity this week, following our Book Week/Book Fair celebrations, to remember how much joy reading can bring and what a valuable learning experience it is. More details about the Reading Hour can be found at http://www.thereadinghour.org.au

MS Readathon and Premier’s Reading Challenge finishing soon

The reading period for the MS Readathon finishes on August 31.

The reading period for the Premier’s Reading Challenge finishes on Friday 6 September. Please ensure all Reading Record Forms are signed by class teachers and then returned to the library. Extra Reading Records are available in the library if the original has been misplaced. Certificates will be given out in Term 4 to students who have returned their Reading Record Form.

Book Fair Fun

Thank you to the many families that visited and supported our 2013 Book Fair. The students had a fabulous week visiting the Book Fair and were eager to purchase items. They also had the opportunity to participate in a huge range of Book Week activities that celebrated the “Read Across the Universe” theme. The Teacher Picks were popular as families bought books handpicked by teachers to donate to the library. The table of $2 treasures was a new addition to the Book Fair and was a great success. Special thanks to the amazing library team and the following parents that helped make the Book Fair such a success; Mandy Kirk, Leah Roulston, Debra James, Annoeska Korczynski, Keesha Tait, Britt Holley, Denise Giles and Kelly Yeo.
