Queensland School Library Week and Competition (P-12): In 2018, the Queensland School Library Association of Queensland is introducing the ‘Queensland School Library Week’ from 5-9 March to focus on the work accomplished by qualified teacher librarians and library staff in improving literacy and research skills in print and digital formats in school libraries. There is extensive research which supports links between literacy achievement and the presence of a qualified teacher librarian and a well resourced library.
As a library team our goal at GCC is to provide programs, spaces and support that encourage students to connect, collaborate, challenge, create and celebrate. Access to print and digital resources is offered seamlessly and inquiry is encouraged and supported, empowering students to become independent lifelong learners. We seek to enrich and support the curriculum, taking into consideration the varied interests and abilities of the College community. We focus on resources that stimulate growth in factual knowledge, literacy appreciation, technology and critical and creative thinking. We are also aware of the great partnership we share with parents/caregivers in working together to support students’ learning journeys and welcome your support and feedback.
To celebrate ‘Queensland School Library Week’ students are invited to participate in the following competitions. All entries are due on Monday 12 March.
To enter students draw or paint a character or event from a favourite book. Remember to include the name of the book and author on the back of the artwork. Please ensure entries are clearly named and sent to the library by Monday 12 March.

Scholastic Book Club (P-12)
Book Club Issue 2 will be sent home next week. Thank you for partnering with us to support Book Club in 2018. Last year your purchases enabled the College to receive a phenomenal $4088 in Scholastic Rewards, helping us build the learning and literacy resources at GCC.
Book Club brochures are handed out to Prep – Year 6 students, but Year 7-12 students can also have orders placed. Extra copies of the brochures are available at the library or via this link on the Scholastic website. We’ve added a section on the GCCHub with the latest brochure link and cover note for parents/caregivers to view. Orders normally take 1-2 weeks to arrive and Primary orders are delivered to classrooms. Secondary orders are collated and sent to students via their form class teacher. Please note you must order within the designated time frame noted on the cover note to have orders delivered free of charge to the College.
Have you tried the LOOP ordering option that Scholastic offer? LOOP is the Linked Online Ordering & Payment platform, allowing parents to order and pay for their child’s Book Club requirements in one simple process. LOOP orders are submitted online, eliminating the need for paper order forms. We have included LOOP ordering instructions on the back of the Issue 2 cover letter for your convenience.
Did you know there is also a Gift Function enabling you to tag Book Club orders on the LOOP that are intended as a surprise gift? Your gift orders will be delivered to the College and marked accordingly, for the Book Club team to set aside your order at the library for you to collect. Click on this link for more details: Gift Option.
If you have a Book Club query or require support, please contact the library team at [email protected] or the Scholastic Customer Service via email at [email protected] or by phone on 1800 021 233.
See you in the library,
