Ten year old Laura Vobr blitzed the opposition with her last throw to win the Regional Discus title this week and qualify for the Primary State Athletics Championships. Laura was sitting in fourth place before the final throw so had to pull out a big throw. She spun beautifully, released the disci, and watched it soar out to 22.42m just off her personal best distance but further than any other competitors had thrown. Laura also shone in the shot put event putting a personal best put with her last attempt which placed her in 4th place, just missing selection in this event.
Damian Tomokino has been training hard for his 10 year old discus event and this paid off as he threw 25.05m almost 2m further than he has thrown before. He placed in fifth place which was an awesome effort against very tough opposition who threw over 30m! Noah Woolston also finished a very creditable fifth in the 10 year old Shot Put event, where he was up against bigger, stronger and more experienced competitors.
Tara Fissenden put the shot well to finish in seventh place with a distance of 7.59m just a little less than her put at the District Carnival. Bradyn Bell also competed strongly in the 200m event just missing qualification for the finals.
GCCC was very proud to have had six students representing the Glasshouse District at the Regional Championships with these students competing strongly and fairly. Laura is one of nine Glasshouse athletes who qualified to compete at the Primary State Athletics Championships being held in Brisbane early next term.
