What a blessing to receive the beautiful rain last weekend; the garden has certainly enjoyed it and is growing great guns.
All of the classes have now planted their broad bean seedlings into the garden beds so that they can continue to observe the lifecycle of a seed. Green thumbs have been kept busy harvesting lots of broccoli, cauliflower, eggplant and planting seedlings of corn, beetroot and lots of beans and peas into the beds.
In week 4 our Year 2 chef’s made their own gnocchi with smashed up broad bean pesto using potatoes and broad beans harvested from the garden. The Year 1s and 2W enjoyed some nice warm broccoli and bacon soup in week 5, which was very much appreciated on a cool windy morning.
Spring is just around the corner so we will be planting corn, melon, zucchini and squash seeds in the next week to plant for a summer harvest along with lettuce and spring onions.
We would like to thank Woolworths in Beerwah for donating lots of Jamie Oliver sticker books and over 6000 stickers to the Kitchen Garden. These are being handed out to Year 1 and 2 students to complete over the next few months…..6000 stickers will certainly keep us busy!
Until next fortnight,
Happy gardening & cooking!
