Zoom, zoom, zoom! Our budding chefs had a hoot toot toot making super healthy super fast hummus and celery racing cars (phew- what a tongue twister!) Celery sticks were carefully measured and cut to size, wheels were made from crunchy carrots and sultana racing car drivers took to the track in a race to the finish line! Thank you to Mrs Bull who found the very clever idea for our racing cars on Pintrest; sometimes getting kids to eat healthy food just takes a bit of imagination.
Our green thumbs were kept busy getting the garden beds back into shape after the holidays. Our brassica bed (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage etc.) was given a good clean out and weed. We also removed our broad beans and celery and planted new seedlings of capsicum, pumpkins and corn. The celery proved to be very difficult to remove with much heaving and puffing required to get it out.
Our zucchini’s are starting to produce and our beetroot continues to flourish. Lots of watering was also done which was welcome relief on such a hot day (and not just for the plants!) Young Gabi was looking very fashionable in the garden, gorgeous white lace dress that she chose herself….thank goodness for Napisan Mum!
Until next time, Happy gardening and cooking,
Mandy Ward, Kitchen Garden Convenor
