Classes were put straight to work after the holidays with much to be done in the garden. Garden beds were watered and we were excited to see that the sunflower seeds we had planted before the holidays had germinated in the adopt a garden beds. We harvested our enormous beetroots and made beetroot spaghetti that turned everyone’s tongues red with the juice.
Master chefs made rhubarb and strawberry crumble which was devoured in record time. The rhubarb had grown to gigantic proportions over the holidays. The leaves were so enormous we decided to use them as sun hats.
This term we will be learning all about bugs. Some bugs are good for the garden and some bugs are ‘baddies’ and eat our crops. Groups went on a bug hunt to see how many different types of bugs they could find in our Kitchen Garden and examined them with magnifying glasses.
Until next fortnight,
Happy gardening and remember to slip, slop, slap before tackling the weeds!
Mandy Ward, Kitchen Garden Coordinator.
