On a beautiful Sunshine Coast winter’s morning Jared Moss was racing around the State Cross Country course in Buderim.
Jared was selected in the Sunshine Coast team at the Regional Championships and has been looking forward to the state champs. The best 10 to 19-year-old cross country runners from all over Queensland competed against the many National Champions and State and Australian representatives amongst them. The quality of the races was exceptionally high with one race having the top six cross country runners in the country in the same race!
Jared represented the Sunshine Coast in the 11 year boys’ race against a field of 60 boys. The pace was very fast right from the gun and continued at three and a half minutes per kilometre pace, which is fast! Jared ran really well against this classy field finishing 45th overall which was a great effort against students who are dedicated to cross country training and running. Jared gains a lot of his fitness from his AFL training and games although he has been training for these championships.
Along the course, Jared also took the time to encourage several runners who were walking to keep on running. What a great example of sportsmanship and kindness. Jared really enjoyed his run and the experience of racing at the State Cross Country Championships.
On the second day of the carnival, the students ran in relays racing over 1500m each. These are very exciting and Jared’s team had fun but also ran well in the 11-year-old boys’ race. One boy had to run twice as they were a runner short but the boys still excelled and encouraged each other all the way.
GCC is proud to have Jared competing at this competition which is his second State Championship this year.
