Introducing Jamie Simmonds

My name is Mr Jamie Simmonds. I have been married for 25 years to Juliette who teaches Year 7 teacher at GCC. We are raising four children who are 15, 13, 11 and 7 years old. I have been teaching for 25 years in Queensland schools where I have recently focused on teaching STEAM and I have been involved in curriculum development. I am currently in the last year of a Master of Education where I am researching the explicit teaching of soft skills. I am passionate about seeing the whole student develop and I consider Glasshouse Christian College to be particularly strong in this area. Our family attends Life Church in Kawana, which is just a stone’s throw from home. Between schooling, family and study, life is always interesting.

Glasshouse Christian College is an exciting move for me. The culture, facilities and staff have exceeded my expectations and I have felt very welcome. I am loving the Kitchen Garden space and in terms of garden, it is a dream. I feel blessed to be co-ordinating such an amazing learning space and the students love exploring nature during classes. At first break, primary students are invited to visit the garden and engage in a different activity each day that focuses on soft skill development. I am also fortunate to visit each year level to release the Team leaders, so I am getting to know many children.

When I am not at school and I find a moment for myself, I enjoy surfing, collecting vintage surfboards, jumping off waterfalls, mountain biking, climbing mountains, bushwalking and the odd bout of fishing. Our family enjoys adventure holidays and here we are on top of Mt Kosciusko on one of our trips.

I am always eager to chat with parents so please stop by the garden anytime you see me tinkering. There are plenty of spare shovels and lots of soil to move.
